Sun
and Fog
The summer
fog along the Pacific Coast can be a wonder element in pictures. On this
day the sun was setting as the fog began pouring over Mount Tamalpais.
The sun was glowing as it lit up the fog. It created abstract patterns
of light and form. I only had a few moments to shoot before the sun disappeared
behind the ridge.

Tips:
Shooting
directly into the sun is a challenge for your cameras light meter. The
pictures have a tendency to be under exposed. Set your camera on manual.
Point your camera away from the sun to take a light reading of the sky.
Point it towards the sun and compose your picture. I took these pictures
without really seeing what was in the view finder. DO NOT look at the sun.
I look at the edge of my viewfinder. It glows when I get it lined up with
the sun. I shoot slide film. The next trick is to bracket like crazy. I
went plus two stops to make sure I captured a good exposure. Film is less
costly than missing a shot. Prepare to shoot some film when you have unusual
lighting conditions. |
