| This picture is part of
a series done for an article called Road Warrior in Shutterbug
Photo Magazine. The article was written for Sportsmobile and features
the PhotoMobile.
Aesthetics play and important
part in capturing a "landscape-with-object" picture that is pleasing to
the eye. The first thing that needed to be done was to wash the van. Next
I scouted for a location on the night of the full moon. I wanted to determine
where the moon would rise. I got a good approximation by looking 180 degrees
across the sky from where I thought the sun would be setting. Then I waited
for sunset. I wanted the colors of sunset to reflect off the van and provide
highlights in my picture.

Tips:
The
bright lights of the PhotoMobile fooled the light meter in my camera. I
took my light readings by pointing my camera away from the van. That became
the light reading I used for the middle reading of my bracket. I bracketed
my exposure a full stop in both directions to make sure I got the shot.
Remember that film is one of the least expensive portions of your shoot.
Returning to a location to do it again is not the way to use your time
wisely. Get it right the first time. |
