A driving rain was falling in the East Bay when I saw a light appear on the horizon. I knew the storm was about to end and the sun might come out before sunset. I drove 15 miles to the Berkeley Hills so I could wait for rainbows. A 180 degree rainbow was waiting for me when I arrived at my favorite overlook. I ran up to take the picture and discovered I was out of film. I ran back to the car and loaded up. When I got back to my overlook my battery was dead. I returned to the car a second time and then ran back to find that most of the rainbow was now gone. The rainbow that was remaining looked like it was pouring out of the cloud with a pot of gold at the end. I was breathless. I could see Mount Diablo in the distance and the hills of Tilden Park drenched in the golden light of the late afternoon. |
